SCA organizes forum to create awareness on the functions of financial market supervisory authorities

  The Emirates Securities and Commodities Authority (SCA), has organized at its Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange hall a forum to improve the level of awareness among investors and other stock market clients. The forum, which was held under the theme: "The Supervisory Role of the Emirates Securities and Commodities Authority", was part of the SCA's sustained efforts to create a sound economic environment and more attractive investment climate.

The forum was the first among the activities on the SCA's list of awareness programs on legal issues of significant importance to all stakeholders on the stock market. The programs, which was designed by the SCA's legal team and are to be implemented throughout the year, consist of a number of legal issues of immense importance to all the targeted segments of the society.

Maryam Al-Suwaidi, SCA Deputy Chief Executive Officer for Legal Affairs, Issuance and Research, opened the forum, which was held under the patronage of H.E. Abdullah Al-Turifi, SCA Chief Executive Officer. The legal team, made up of SCA legal Advisors, including Dr. Muzhir Fargali, Dr. Ashraf Abdul Mun'em and Sadawi Naji, who is the SCA's Violations and Complaints Investigator, educated the gathering, including staff of the SCA and the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange (ADX), on the role of the SCA in supervising and monitoring the stock markets in the UAE, its role in ensuring the implementation of transparency, disclosure in financial market transactions, listing conditions and procedures, regulating the markets, monitoring and inspection of companies operating in the financial market sector and the SCA's powers in penalizing violators and infringers of stock market rules and regulations.

Other issues highlighted during the forum include definition of financial market and its institutions and the features and effectiveness of SCA's supervisory role.

The forum ended with an open discussion session during which attendees put across their enquiries and share their views with the SCA legal team.

Commenting on the forum, Maryam Al-Suwaidi said: "This forum is the first of the activities listed to improve the level of awareness on legal issues of significant importance to all investors and other clients on the capital markets. We truly believe in the need to intensify our efforts in this area to minimize the legal mistakes which investors and stock market clients may fall into so that we save time and money, on the one hand, and ensure transparency and easy transactions, on the other."
